COGNIZANT NET UP 57 PERCENT AT $285.50 MILLION Chennai The Economic Times Business Standard Cognizant Technology Solutions Corporation has posted a 57 per cent increase in revenue at $285.50 million in the first quarter of 2006, as against $ 181.70 million during the corresponding period last year.
Net income for the first quarter increased to $ 53.60 million on a non-GAAP basis, compared to $ 32 million in the first quarter of 2005, a Cognizant release said.
The release said the company, based on current visibility levels, anticipated the revenue to be at least $ 317 million, in the second quarter of 2006.
Fiscal revenue was expected to be at least $ 1.30 billion and the total headcount was expected to exceed 35,000 by the end of 2006.
"Our first quarter results were driven by escalating demand for our integrated set of services across our entire range of industry verticals. We experienced strong growth in our newer verticals, especially media and telecommunications and strengthened our leadership position in financial services, healthcare and life sciences," Lakshmi Narayanan, President and CEO said in the release.

SENSEX, NIFTY CLOSE AT RECORD HIGHS IN HIGHLY VOLATILE TRADING SESSION The Economic Times The markets ended at a new peak after witnessing a high volatile trading session.
The 30-benchmark index was up 91.94 points (0.75 percent), on 12,310.72. The Sensex closed at this level for the first time after it hit a fresh all-time high of 12,337.01 in the late session of trade.
The NSE Nifty index was up 29 points to 3,634.25, to record a new all-time closing high.
The market breadth was positive on BSE with 1,464 shares advancing compared to 1,069 that declined. A total of 63 shares remained unchanged.
Among the Sensex pack, 22 shares advanced while 8 declined.
HCL Infosystems moved ahead 0.2 percent at Rs 163.00 after the company announced its tie up with DishTV.
MphasiS BFL Ltd moved up 2.3 percent at Rs 205.50 after the company informed BSE that Integrien Corporation has announced a unique partnership with the company, a leading provider of IT and business process outsourcing services.
